Abyssos: The Fifth Circle
The first encounter of the Abyssos raid tier. Proto-Carbuncle, a twisted mythic creation resembling a massive carbuncle, introduces unique mirror reflection mechanics.
Proto-Carbuncle
A gem-themed fight featuring a reflective wall mechanic that changes how attacks resolve. Players must understand which attacks reflect and position accordingly.
Key Mechanics
| Mechanic | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Sonic Howl | Raidwide | Party-wide magic damage - shield and heal |
| Crunch | Tankbuster | Heavy tankbuster requiring mitigation and healing |
| Ruby Glow | Raidwide | Party damage that creates a reflective wall splitting the arena |
| Searing Ray | Cleave | Boss jumps to corner and cleaves entire arena in front - get behind boss. When Ruby Glow wall is up, attack reflects off wall |
| Topaz Stones | AoE | Four shards drop and explode. Reflects off Ruby Glow wall for additional AoEs |
| Acidic Slaver | Raidwide | Knocks down all players with moderate damage - transitions to Phase 2 |
| Venom Pool | AoE | Growing poison puddles that do not reflect off Ruby Glow |
| Starving Stampede | AoE | Boss charges across arena - avoid the path |
| Devour | AoE | Puddles spawn at cardinals requiring assigned players to soak |
Ruby Glow (Reflection Mechanic)
The core mechanic of this fight:
- Wall appears splitting the arena in half
- Certain attacks reflect off this wall
- Searing Ray reflects - if boss cleaves toward wall, the attack bounces back
- Topaz Stones reflect - gems create AoEs on both sides of wall
- Position based on reflection - sometimes the reflected attack is the danger
Phase Transition
After Acidic Slaver:
- Topaz Stones become Toxic - they create growing poison pools
- Poison pools do NOT reflect - only original placement matters
- Boss uses more aggressive patterns combining multiple mechanics
Tips
- Assign clock positions (tanks N/S, healers E/W, DPS intercardinals)
- Split into light parties for certain mechanics
- For Searing Ray, check if wall is up and position accordingly
- Watch gem landing spots and their reflection points
- During Devour, assigned players must soak cardinal puddles
- Keep mobile to avoid growing poison pools in Phase 2
